Oh, Julia

Of course I'm going to play along

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your blog along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they’re listening to.

Cheap Wine and Cigarettes -- Darkbuster. This song by local punk legends Darkbuster makes me think of summer and good times having a beer and (back in my b-a-d days) smoking a cigarette or three. Lately, I've been putting it on in the car.

Bridge over Troubled Water -- Simon and Garfunkel -- Because I'm trying to learn it for a talent show at work.

Shut Up (So I Can Love You) -- The McGunks. This is a song from my boyfriend's band The McGunks. My boy was singing it the other day and I can't get it out of my head now. Shameless plug -- The band will be playing in the WBRU Rock Hunt this Friday at Giza in Providence. Come on out and see them and you can get this -- and other -- songs stuck in your head!

Wonder -- Natalie Merchant. From the Tigerlily album. Natalie Merchant's voice is enchanting for me.

Here Comes the Sun -- Nina Simone version. This song is supposed to be a happy song, but Nina's voice makes it haunting.

You Suck -- The Murmurs. No one sounds prettier calling someone a FUCK than The Murmurs.

Weezer -- Beverly Hills... Mainly because I want to *be* the girl in the song that sings "Gimme... Gimme"

You can play along, or not, as you please.

I love Weezer. I have Hash Pipe as one of my ringtones on my mobile phone. :D TCBIM and I went to see them, with Foo Fighters, last year. They were amazing. Both of them.

I'm an offical lurker in the OC. I've been meaning to start blogging myself, but haven't found the time, thus far. Hopefully one day. But I couldn't resist replying to this post as I'm a big music fan.

Seven Songs I'm listenting to these days:
1) Dear Sons and Daughters of Hungry Ghosts - Wolf Parade
2) I'll Believe in Anything - Wolf Parade
I've been listening to these two songs so much, I've actually awoken in the middle of the night with lyrics running through my head several times this week.

3) The Skin of my Yellow Country Teeth - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
4) Upon This Tidal Wave of Young Blood - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Can rarely understand what the hell the guy is saying, but man, does it sound good. There's a lot of stuff going on in their music -- vocal delivery as well as music complexity remind me a lot of the Talking Heads.

5) Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels) - The Arcade Fire
One word: Glockenspiel!

6) It's 5! - Architecture in Helsinki
More nonsense lyrics, but fun music.

7) Chicago - Sufjan Stevens
"I've made a lot of mistakes - in my mind, in my mind."

Ah, I know you, Kevin... How's your Massive Attacker these days?

There's a commercial on Nickolodeon for "Kids' Songs". It's a CD with grownup songs sung by kids. Everytime it comes on, Weezer's Beverly Hills song comes on and my kids start singing to it. It's hysterical.

That Weezer song gets stuck in head for hours. HOURS.

Now that I've read your post, it's stuck there again.

I know, I know. I have been diligently working on two new pieces, but I'm sort of a perfectionist and I've been wholly unhappy with almost everything I've written lately. Something *this* weekend, for sure.
